Column widths, row heights, merged cells and number formats are taken from the workbook itself. Formulas print as their last calculated value β€” that is what the file stores. Charts and floating pictures are not printed, rotated cell text is drawn horizontally, patterned fills print as their colour, and text longer than its column is clipped rather than spilling into the neighbour. Everything happens in your browser.

What is the Excel to PDF tool?

A spreadsheet is a working document. It scrolls, it recalculates, and it looks slightly different on every machine that opens it. A PDF is a finished document β€” fixed pages, fixed layout, nothing that can be dragged out of place by accident. This tool is the bridge: an Excel to PDF converter free of accounts and uploads, taking .xlsx, .xls or .csv and giving back a PDF you can email, print or file away.

What separates it from a quick screenshot is that the workbook is genuinely read, not photographed. Column widths, row heights, merged cells, number formats, cell fonts, fill colours and borders are pulled out of the file and rebuilt as a real table before that table is laid onto a page. A column you widened in Excel stays wide here. A date formatted as 31-Mar-2026 prints as 31-Mar-2026, not as the serial number underneath it.

Everything runs inside the page you are looking at. Your workbook is parsed by JavaScript in this tab β€” it is never sent to a server, so there is no upload progress bar, no queue, and no copy of your numbers sitting in someone else's storage bucket. Turn your Wi-Fi off after this page has loaded and the conversion still works.

How to convert Excel to PDF

  1. Drop your spreadsheet on the box above β€” or click it and browse. One file at a time, in .xlsx, .xls or .csv format. Nothing uploads; the file is read where it sits.
  2. Pick the sheets you want. Empty sheets are filtered out automatically, so the dropdown only lists tabs that actually hold data. Choose All sheets to print the whole workbook β€” each sheet begins on a fresh page β€” or select a single tab.
  3. Set the page up. Landscape or portrait, A4, Letter or Legal, and a margin between 0 and 40 mm. Wide financial models almost always want landscape.
  4. Tune how the cells print. Cell size sets the base text size in pixels, Long cells decides whether overlong text stays on one line or wraps inside its box, and Shrink wide sheets to fit scales an over-wide table down instead of cutting it off at the margin.
  5. Check the live preview. The right-hand pane renders the real PDF β€” the same bytes the download button gives you β€” and reports the page count and file size underneath. Change any option and it re-renders after a short pause.
  6. Press Convert to PDF. The file saves straight to your downloads folder, named after your workbook, with the sheet name appended when you exported a single tab.

Key features

Benefits of converting Excel to PDF here

Who should use this tool?

Accountants and finance teams

Month-end packs, invoices and reconciliation summaries are shared, not co-edited. Landscape A4, gridlines on, header row emphasised, all sheets in one file β€” that is a finished pack in three clicks.

Teachers and administrators

Mark sheets, attendance registers and timetables get printed and pinned up. Portrait, a wider margin for the hole punch, and the sheet name at the top so a stack of pages stays identifiable.

Freelancers sending invoices and quotes

An .xlsx invites the client to β€œjust tweak” a number before they pay it; a PDF does not. Convert the invoice sheet, keep your own column widths so the totals line up, and attach it exactly as you built it.

Privacy-sensitive professionals

Lawyers, doctors and HR staff handle sheets that must not touch a third-party server. This converter never transmits the file, which makes it usable where an online service is not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Excel to PDF converter free?

Yes, completely. There is no account to create, no daily limit, no page cap and no watermark stamped on the output. Because the work happens on your own machine, there is no server bill for us to pass on to you.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded to a server?

No. The workbook is opened, parsed and rendered inside this browser tab, and the PDF is written by the same code. Nothing is transmitted at any point β€” you can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the conversion will still finish normally.

Will the PDF keep my column widths and cell colours?

Yes. Column widths, row heights, merged cells, number formats, fonts, fill colours and borders are read out of the workbook and reproduced. Full styling is only available in .xlsx files, though β€” the old .xls format and plain .csv carry no style information at all, so those print as a clean table and the styling checkbox is switched off for them.

Can I convert a CSV file to PDF as well?

Yes. Drop a .csv straight in and it is treated as a single-sheet workbook. A CSV holds only values, so use the cell size, gridline and header-row options to make it presentable.

My sheet is too wide and the last columns get cut off. What do I do?

Three things help, in this order: switch Orientation to Landscape, leave Shrink wide sheets to fit ticked so an over-wide table is scaled down instead of clipped, and lower the cell size a point or two. Legal paper buys you extra width too. The preview shows the effect of each change immediately.

Do formulas still work in the PDF?

A PDF cannot calculate, so every formula prints as its last calculated value β€” which is exactly what the file stores. If a workbook was saved without recalculating, open it in Excel or LibreOffice, let it recalculate, save, and convert again.

Are my charts and pictures included?

No, and that is worth knowing before you send the file. Charts, images and other floating objects are not printed; only cell content is. Rotated cell text is drawn horizontally, patterned fills print as their base colour, and text longer than its column is clipped rather than spilling into the neighbouring cell.

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?

Not directly. Pages are rendered as high-resolution images of the table, which is what guarantees the layout matches your sheet exactly β€” but it also means you cannot select or search the words. If you need a searchable file, run the result through our OCR tool, which adds an invisible text layer underneath the image.
