What is the HTML to PDF tool?
Markup is written for screens of every size; a PDF is fixed paper. This HTML to PDF converter online bridges the two: it lays your HTML out on a page of the size you choose, splits it across as many sheets as it needs, and hands back a PDF. Give it an .html file or paste the markup into the source box β both routes go through the same renderer.
The reason to reach for it is usually a template that has to leave the browser. An invoice generated as HTML needs to be emailed as a PDF. A newsletter or landing page needs archiving exactly as it looked. A generated report has to be signed off on paper. Doing that through the browser print dialogue means fighting headers, footers and whatever the last person set in the print sheet; here the controls are the ones that actually matter β size, orientation, margin, base font and layout width.
Two things worth knowing up front. The markup is drawn, never run: scripts, iframes, embeds and inline event handlers are removed before anything is rendered, so pasting markup from an email or a client is safe. And the preview is not an approximation β it is the finished PDF re-opened page by page, which is why the page count and file size shown under it are the real ones.
How to convert HTML to PDF
- Drop an .html file on the upload area, or paste your markup into the HTML source box. The preview appears on its own a moment after you stop typing.
- Set Page size (A4, Letter or Legal), Orientation and Margin in millimetres β anything from 0 to 40.
- Choose a Base font: keep the page's own fonts, or force Arial, Georgia, Times New Roman or a monospace face, and set the Base size in points.
- If the design was built for a desktop screen, switch Layout width to 1024 or 1280 px and it is laid out at that width, then shrunk to fit the page.
- Decide whether to load pictures the HTML points at and whether to keep background colours β turning backgrounds off saves ink on a real printer.
- Compare the preview with what you expected, pick a Quality level, then press Create PDF to download it.
Key features
- File or paste β convert a saved .html document, or a fragment of markup you copied out of a template or a generator.
- Real page setup β A4, Letter or Legal, portrait or landscape, with a margin you set in millimetres rather than guess at.
- Desktop-width rendering β lay the page out at 1024 or 1280 px and scale the whole thing down, so a design with a fixed-width container does not collapse into a mobile view.
- Font override β leave the document's own styling alone, or standardise on one base family and size when the source CSS is a mess.
- Three quality levels β Draft for the smallest file, Standard for everyday use, High when small text needs to stay crisp.
- CSS page breaks respected β existing print rules in the markup are honoured, so deliberate breaks land where the author intended.
- Markup is sanitised β scripts, iframes, objects, embeds and event attributes are stripped before rendering; only the images the HTML itself links to are fetched.
Benefits of using this HTML to PDF converter
- No server sees your markup. Templates with client names, prices or internal URLs are rendered in your own tab, unlike hosted converters that need the whole document posted to them.
- What you preview is what you get. The pane below the options is drawn from the PDF bytes, so there is no surprise when you open the download.
- Cleaner than printing from the browser. No automatic date stamp, page URL or print header β the sheet contains your content and your margin, nothing else.
- Nothing added to the output. No watermark, no trial page, no signup wall between you and the file.
- Safe with untrusted HTML. Because executable parts are removed before rendering, you can convert markup someone else wrote without running it.
Who should use this tool?
Front-end and back-end developers
Checking how an email template or a report partial behaves on paper takes seconds: paste the markup, set the margin your printer needs, and read the page count. Handy when a template renders beautifully at 1280 px and falls apart at page width β switch Layout width and you can see both.
Freelancers sending invoices
If your invoices are HTML β from a template, a static site or a small script β this is the last step before the email. A4 portrait, a 10 mm margin, backgrounds on if your header has a colour block, and you have a PDF a client can file and a bookkeeper can accept.
Marketers archiving pages
Campaign pages get taken down and edited. Saving a page's HTML and converting it at desktop width keeps a dated record of what was actually published, including the layout, which a text-only copy would lose.
Documentation and support teams
Generated release notes, knowledge-base articles and system reports often exist only as HTML. Turning them into PDFs gives you something to attach to a ticket, hand out at training, or keep as a versioned artefact alongside the release.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HTML to PDF converter free?
Yes, with no signup and no watermark. Conversion happens in your browser, so there is no per-document cost behind the scenes and no limit on how many files you make.
Can I convert a live web page by pasting its URL?
Not from a URL β a browser is not allowed to read another site's page from this one. To save a web page as PDF, open it, save or copy its HTML source, then drop that here. For an exact archive of a page you are viewing, your browser's own print-to-PDF is the closest equivalent.
Will the text in the PDF be selectable?
No. The laid-out page is captured as an image and placed on each PDF sheet, so the result is visually faithful but not searchable or selectable. If you need real text, print through the browser instead, or put the words through TXT to PDF.
Are my stylesheets and images used?
Styles written in a style attribute or a style block in the markup are applied, and images
the HTML links to are loaded unless you untick that box. A stylesheet referenced by a relative path cannot
be found, because the file is not on this site β inline your CSS for a faithful result.
Is it safe to paste HTML from somewhere else?
Yes. Before anything is rendered, script, iframe, object and embed elements are removed along with every inline event handler and any javascript: link. The markup is drawn as a picture, never executed.
How do I control where the page breaks fall?
Use ordinary print CSS in your markup β a page-break-before or break-inside: avoid
rule on a section is honoured during layout. Failing that, adjusting the margin or the base font size by a
point often moves an awkward break off a heading.
My wide table gets squashed. What should I change?
Set Layout width to 1024 or 1280 px so the table is laid out with room to breathe and then scaled down to fit, and switch Orientation to landscape. Dropping the margin to 5 mm buys a little more width again.
Why is the PDF bigger or blurrier than I expected?
Quality controls how finely the page is captured: Draft is small and soft, High is sharp and heavy. Because pages are stored as images, High on a long document adds up fast β convert at High, then run the file through Compress PDF.
