What is the Extract Pages tool?
Think of it as a copier for page selections. You tell it which pages matter, and it writes those pages into a fresh document while your original stays exactly as it was. That is all it takes to extract pages from PDF online — no editor licence, no account, no upload.
The need shows up whenever a document is bigger than the question being asked. Somebody wants page 3, the signature page. A reviewer asked for chapter two of a 400-page report. You need to keep one invoice out of a year's worth of statements. Sending the whole file is careless and often not allowed, and printing the page you want just to re-scan it is worse.
Two habits make this tool worth learning. First, the page order you type is the order you get, so 5, 1-2 genuinely produces page 5 followed by pages 1 and 2. Second, you can split the selection into individual one-page PDFs and get them back in a ZIP, which is much faster than running an extraction once per page. Both happen in your browser, using pdf-lib to build the output locally.
How to pull pages out of a PDF
- Load your document by dropping it on the upload panel, or click the panel to browse.
- Type the pages you want in Pages to extract — single numbers, ranges, or a mix such as 1-3, 5, 8-10.
- Or click the numbered page buttons to toggle pages on and off; the preview jumps to whichever page you just clicked.
- Reach for All, Odd, Even, Invert or Clear when your selection follows a pattern.
- In Advanced options, decide whether you want one combined PDF or a ZIP with one PDF per page, and whether to keep your typed order or sort the pages ascending.
- Confirm the green KEEP frames in the preview, then press the Extract button to download the result.
Key features
- Ranges and single pages together — one box accepts 2, 6-9, 14 and the numbered buttons stay in step with whatever you type.
- Order is yours to choose — keep the sequence you typed to reorder while extracting, or switch to “Sort ascending” for strict document order.
- One PDF or one file per page — export a single document, or a ZIP containing yourfile-page-7.pdf and friends for pages that need to travel separately.
- Keep/skip live preview — kept pages are framed in green and labelled with their new position, skipped pages are dimmed, so you never guess what lands in the file.
- Pattern shortcuts — All, Odd, Even, Invert and Clear cover the selections people actually make, including “everything except what I already picked”.
- Duplicates handled quietly — if a page appears twice in your range, it is extracted once, and the footer count reflects that.
- The source file is never changed — extraction only reads your PDF; nothing is written back to it.
Benefits of using this PDF page extractor
- Share less than you have. Sending one page instead of ninety is both faster and safer, and the pages you left out are not in the file at all.
- Nothing is uploaded. Contracts, tax returns and research drafts stay on your machine, which also means no queue and no size limit imposed by a server.
- Original fidelity. Pages are copied as PDF objects, so vector text stays crisp and selectable and images are not re-encoded on the way out.
- Batching built in. The ZIP mode turns “I need each of these 30 pages as its own file” from an afternoon into one click.
- Free, unbranded output. No watermark, no signup wall, no daily cap on how many extractions you run.
Who should use this tool?
Researchers and postgrads
Journals and edited volumes arrive as one enormous PDF. Extract the chapter or article you are citing, keep it in your reference folder, and annotate a 20-page file instead of scrolling through 600.
Office staff sharing a single form page
When a supplier only needs the bank details page or the signed authority, extract that page on its own. The rest of the pack — pricing, internal notes, other people's data — never leaves your desk.
Teachers building worksheets
Pull the three exercises you want from a textbook PDF and put them in your own order, for instance 12, 4-5, so the sheet matches the lesson rather than the book.
Legal and finance teams preparing exhibits
Bundles often need each document as a separate file with a predictable name. Select the pages, switch the output to one PDF per page, and the ZIP gives you individually numbered files ready to attach or upload.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get one page from a PDF as its own file?
Type that page number, or click its button in the grid, and press Extract. A one-page PDF downloads named after the source file with “-extracted” added.
Can I save selected PDF pages in a different order?
Yes. Leave “Page order” on “Keep the order I typed” and write them the way you want them, such as 9, 1, 4-5. Choose “Sort ascending” if you would rather ignore the typing order.
What is the difference between extracting and deleting pages?
Extracting copies the pages you choose into a new file and leaves the rest behind. Delete Pages does the opposite — it returns a copy of the whole document with the pages you marked taken out. Pick whichever list is shorter to type.
Can I get every page as a separate PDF at once?
Press All to select the whole document, then set Output to “Each page as its own PDF (ZIP)”. You get one file per page, zipped, without running the tool repeatedly.
Does the extracted PDF keep the original quality?
It does. Pages are copied rather than rendered to images, so fonts, vector artwork and image resolution are identical to the source. Only the pages you excluded are missing.
Is this the same as splitting a PDF?
Not quite. Splitting cuts a document into consecutive parts by size or at chosen break points; extracting lets you cherry-pick scattered pages. Use Split PDF for “first half, second half”, and this tool for “pages 3, 17 and 42”.
Can I extract pages from an encrypted PDF?
Not directly. If the file is password-protected the page will say so — unlock it with the Unlock PDF tool first, then extract from the unlocked copy.
My document has 900 pages and only 400 buttons appear. Why?
The visual picker stops at 400 buttons so the page stays responsive. Pages beyond that are still available: type their numbers in the range box and they are extracted normally.
