200 DPI Only pages you changed are rasterised; every other page keeps its original text and vectors.

Text you don't touch is kept exactly as-is. Retyped lines are painted over and re-drawn with a matching standard font (Helvetica, Times or Courier) — non-Latin scripts and exotic embedded fonts can't be reproduced one-to-one. In cover mode the original words stay in the file's hidden text layer; choose rasterise above (or Redact PDF) when the text must really be gone. Editing the existing text works on upright (unrotated) pages.

What is the Edit PDF tool?

This is a proper PDF editor, not an annotation layer pretending to be one. When you drop a file in, the page text becomes live: click into a word, delete it, type a new one, and the line is re-typeset where it stood. On top of that you get text boxes, images, stamps, watermarks, shapes, freehand ink, highlight, underline, strikeout, redaction and a true eraser. You can edit PDF online free with all of it, in one workspace, without installing anything.

The reason most people end up here is small but urgent. A price in a quotation is wrong. A colleague’s name is misspelled on a certificate. A contract needs CONFIDENTIAL across every page before it goes out, or an address has to disappear before a document is filed. Reopening the original source file is often impossible — it was written by someone else, in software you don’t have, three years ago. The PDF is all you have, so the PDF is what you fix.

Everything runs as JavaScript in your own tab: pdf.js draws the pages, pdf-lib writes the new file, and the bytes stay in memory on your machine. No upload, no queue, no “your files are deleted after an hour” promise to trust, and no watermark stamped on the result. Close the tab and the document is simply gone from the browser — which is what makes this safe for payslips, medical letters, IDs and signed agreements.

How to edit a PDF online

  1. Drop your PDF on the upload area, or click it to browse. The page opens with a thumbnail rail on the left and a toolbar on top.
  2. Pick Edit text and click straight into any line to retype it. The selected line can also be removed outright with Delete this text.
  3. Need something new instead? Use Add text, Add images, Stamp, Shapes or Drawing and click or drag on the page.
  4. Mark up what stays: Highlight, Underline and Strikeout snap to the real text lines, so a rough drag still lands cleanly on the words.
  5. Hide what must go with Redact or the True eraser, then choose below whether removed text is covered or the changed pages are rasterised.
  6. Name the output file and press Save PDF. The summary tells you how many lines were rewritten and how many pages were rasterised.

Key features

Benefits of using this PDF editor

Who should use this tool?

Office and admin staff fixing last-minute mistakes

An invoice went out with the wrong PO number and the accounts team wants it corrected today. You open the PDF, click the number, type the right one, save, and send. No chasing the person who owns the template.

Freelancers and studios sending drafts

Designers and photographers can drop a DRAFT stamp on page one, tile a low-opacity watermark across every page, and still keep the layout crisp because unedited pages are copied rather than re-rendered.

Teachers, students and reviewers

Mark a paper the way you would on paper: highlight the argument, underline sources, strike out a repeated paragraph, and add a comment in a text box. Snapping keeps every mark on the line it belongs to.

Anyone handling private information

HR, legal and healthcare staff regularly need one line gone — a salary, a diagnosis, a home address. Redact the area, switch removal to rasterise, and the words are physically absent from the saved file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really change the existing text, or only add new text on top?

Both. In Edit text mode the page text is live, so you click into a line and retype it. The line is masked and redrawn in place, and lines you do not touch are left exactly as they were.

Why does an edited line look slightly different from the original?

Fonts embedded in the original PDF cannot always be reused for new characters, so a changed line is re-typeset in the closest match — Helvetica, Times or Courier, or an embedded font you pick. Untouched lines keep the original typeface, so a long edit is more visible than a one-word fix.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Every step — rendering, editing and writing the new PDF — happens in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib. Nothing is transmitted, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.

Does Redact actually delete the text underneath?

It depends on the mode you choose at the bottom. Cover paints a solid box but the original words remain in the file's text layer, so they can still be copied. Rasterise turns the pages you changed into images, which permanently destroys the hidden text. Use rasterise whenever the content is sensitive.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

A scan is a picture, so there is no text to click into. You can still cover, erase, annotate and add new text. To make the words editable, run the file through OCR first.

Can I type Bengali, Hindi or other non-Latin text?

Yes. Choose Noto Sans Bengali or Hind Siliguri from the font list and the font is embedded in the saved PDF. The standard PDF fonts only cover Latin characters, and the editor warns you if a character you typed could not be drawn with the font you selected.

My PDF is password protected and will not open. What now?

Encrypted files must be decrypted before they can be edited. Remove the password with Unlock PDF, edit the copy, and re-protect it afterwards with Protect PDF if you need to.

Is there a file-size or page limit?

There is no artificial cap; the limit is your device's memory. Very large scanned files are slower to render because each page is drawn to a canvas, so on a phone expect a short wait when switching pages.
